LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Yum! Brands, parent company of Dallas-based Pizza Hut, announced in its fourth quarter 2003 report that it will begin co-branding the pizza chain with its 59-unit WingStreet brand this year.
According to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, U.S. Pizza Hut stores (excluding licensed outlets) numbered 6,400 at the end of 2003, down 103 from 2002. Of those units, 1,776 are company owned, while 4,624 are franchised. The company added 137 units to its U.S. system and closed 240 units.
At the end of 2003 there were 4,462 Pizza Huts in international markets, an increase of 185. Of those units, 1,021 are company owned, and 3,441 are franchised or affiliated stores. The chain added 396 new international units during the year, while closing 205.
