DALLAS—Pizza Hut will begin delivering pre-packaged, family-size salads nationwide on Feb. 28.
According to a news release, the Fresh Express Ranch Salad Kits, which serve a family of four and cost $2.99, include romaine and iceberg lettuce, cabbage and carrots with ranch dressing.
Research conducted by Pizza Hut shows mothers liked the idea of "serving something green on the plate" as a means of balancing a pizza-centered meal. Ranch, the research found, is the top salad dressing pick among families.
According to the release, Salinas, Calif.-based Fresh Express is one of the world's largest producers and distributors of fresh salads, and is a subsidiary of Performance Food Group. Its products also are sold in grocery stores.
Selling salads through delivery and carryout is the latest of Pizza Hut's healthful menu additions. It introduced its Fit 'N Delicious pizza (a pizza with 25 percent less fat than its regular recipe Thin 'N Crispy pizza) last year.
