Pizza Inn opens doors in Durham, N.C.

April 14, 2011

Just two weeks after opening a new unit in Pikeville, N.C., Pizza Inn has done the same in Durham, N.C.

The latest restaurant is owned and operated by Troy Harrington and Mike Cotton.

Harrington served as a vice president for nearly 10 years with a homebuilding company, and Cotton, who was the founder and former operator of Hog Heaven Bar-B-Q in Durham and Roxboro, N.C., put their construction and operations expertise together to create a new experience.

"We are happy to bring the Pizza Inn brand back to Durham," Cotton said. "National restaurant chains have avoided northern Durham as they don't believe that our community will support a new restaurant but, as a 45-year resident, I disagree and so do about 90,000 other people."

The new Pizza Inn will include an all-day buffet and a full menu for catering and take-out. The restaurant was remodeled from an old, locally-owned pizzeria, and now includes three flat-screen televisions, a 27-item salad bar, a full pizza and pasta buffet and seating for 134 people.

The interior design is highlighted by football helmets and sports jerseys from area schools.
