LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Pizza Magia, a 35-store Louisville-based pizza delivery and carry-out chain, was dubbed one of 50 U.S. regional powerhouse chains for 2002 in the Jan. 28 issue of Nation's Restaurant News. The article on the company was one of 50 in-depth profiles written about rapidly growing chains.
Dan Holland, president of Papa John's International from 1990 to '95, purchased Pizza Magia in April 2000. The fledgling company's three stores were in Lexington, Ky., but now its market reach extends throughout Kentucky and to Indiana and Illinois. Eight stores are managed by corporate partnerships, while all others are franchised.
The company plans to double store numbers by year's end, and grow to 150 units by 2006.
