Pizza Outlet likely to change name chain-wide in 2003

PITTSBURGH -- Pizza Outlet director of marketing Jim Powers acknowledged in a recent Pittsburgh Tribune-Review report that the 100-plus store delivery-carryout chain likely will change its name to Vocelli Pizza in 2003.

In hopes of distancing itself from what the company now perceives as too generic a brand name, the company's 20-plus Virginia stores adopted the new moniker just recently. The report said it's likely the company's 73 other units will follow.

The company's current utilitarian name helped launch the company in Mt. Lebanon, Pa., in 1988.
