Q1 systemwide sales rise 29 percent at Domino's Pizza UK, IRL

LONDON -- Domino's Pizza UK & IRL, PLC, announced in an April 23 release that system sales in the first 15 weeks of 2002 were up nearly 29 percent to £33.1 million (U.S. $48 million) compared to 31 percent and £25.7 million (U.S. $37.3 million) in the same period last year.

Seven new stores were opened in the period, boosting the franchise company's total in the UK and Ireland to 244. The company opened six in the same period last year.

Average weekly unit sales increased 16 percent to £9,215 (U.S. $13,389) versus £7,931 (U.S. $11,523) in the same period last year. Comparable store sales were up 19 percent to £9,515 (U.S. $13,825), compared to 20 percent and £7,962 (U.S. $11,568) previously.

News of the increases sent Domino's stock climbing throughout the week. On Friday morning, it traded at 93.5 pence per share, up 5.5 pence.
