Racist gang attacks UK pizza shop workers

Dec. 15, 2002

NORTH ROAD, England -- A racist gang is suspected of attacking a pizza shop staff and defacing the property.

According to the Evening Chronicle, the Algerian owner of Munchees and his Libyan and Kurd employees were beaten by six men. The gang also painted racist graffiti on the shop's shutters.

The shop's owner was knocked unconscious and all his staff (the number of whom was not available) required hospital treatment for head and facial injuries after the Dec. 14 attack.

Local police called the attack premeditated, cowardly and racially motivated.

"We believe that it was six men who went into the shop and attacked the staff," a police spokesman said. "We are not certain what they were armed with, but it would seem to be sticks of some kind, possibly pool cues."
