ORLANDO, Fla. — Despite the occasional pie topped with clam or shrimp, seafood and pizza toppings are hardly synonymous. (See related story Fishing for Toppings)
However, that isn't stopping one of the nation's most ubiquitous restaurant chains from rolling out a limited time menu offering. Lobster Pizza is just one of the appetizer items Red Lobster will roll out for its 20th anniversary of Lobsterfest, an annual event which kicks off today at the company's more than 670 restaurants throughout North America.
According to a news release, it features creative new selections of lobster appetizers and entrees that "are sure to delight lobster lovers everywhere" -- including the aforementioned Lobster Pizza.
Other unusual new appetizers, in addition to the pizza, include Lobster Bisque in a Sourdough Bread Bowl and Lobster Mac & Cheese.
Among entrees on the menu will be: Lobster in Paradise, A Rock lobster tail or twin Rock tails broiled and served with Parrot Bay Coconut Shrimp and pina colada dipping sauce; and Lobster Asparagus Penne Pasta, lobster, shrimp and asparagus tossed with penne pasta in a garlic Alfredo sauce.
Keith Keogh, executive chef for Red Lobster, said this year's event will be even more special because of the overlap with Valentine's Day. "Our consumer research revealed that the majority of Americans view lobster as one of the most romantic foods," he said.
