Restaurant concepts roll out the red carpet for Mom

With Mother's Day around the corner — May 11 for those who still need to come up with a gift idea — restaurant concepts are bracing for a busy day. Last year, the National Restaurant Association estimated that 80 million Americans dined out for the occasion.

Plenty of brands are enticing consumers to stop by with Mom this weekend. Chuck E. Cheese's created its first video contest for the day, while Pollo Tropical, Boston Market, KFC, White Castle, Baskin-Robbins and Krispy Kreme have also created special promotions, from BOGO deals to flower doughnuts. 

Here are some other promotions that have popped up for those looking for last-minute gift ideas:

  • Florida-based Flippers Pizzeria is offering two promotions for Mother's Day, including a free Roma Tomato Basil Flatbread throughout the entire month of May with a minimum purchase of $15 from the brand's pizza menu. "The Roma Tomato Basil Flatbread is one of our fan favorites," Ben Richardson, VP of Operations, said in a news release. "It's hand-crafted with fresh, vine-ripened Roma Tomatoes, then covered with extra-virgin olive oil, fresh chopped basil, and finished off with three different cheeses: Pecorino Romano, Mozzarella and Asiago." Additionally, participating restaurants will give moms a free dessert on Mother's Day, May 11 — no purchase necessary. This includes the brand's cherry cheesecake or fudge dark chocolate cake.
  • Woody's Bar-B-Q restaurants will host a Mother's Day celebration May 12. According to a news release, guests who bring their moms in to a participating location and buy one of the brand's signature entrees receive a gift certificate valued at $7.99 to be used on their next visit. The offer is good for dine-in entrée orders only.
  • To mark Mother's Day weekend, Dunkin' Donuts has introduced a new "Flowers for Mom" Donut, a flower-shaped yeast ring donut with strawberry-flavored icing and pastel green icing drizzle. The "Flowers for Mom" Donut is available at participating Dunkin' Donuts restaurants nationwide through Mother's Day. In addition, the brand is offering a "This Mom Runs on Dunkin'" 16-ounce tumbler and has launched a special Twitter sweepstakes asking fans to share one piece of advice they have received from mom using the hashtag #MomsDDay. Three winners will be chosen to win two $50 mGifts, one for themselves and one to gift their moms. Finally, the company is also selling a limited-edition Mother's Day virtual Dunkin' Donuts Card, available in several designs.
  • Starbucks will mark Mother's Day by offering a buy-one-get-one free Teavana Oprah Chai Tea Latte while supplies last on May 11 at participating stores in the U.S. and Canada. Teavana Oprah Chai was developed by Oprah Winfrey in collaboration with Teavana's tea teaologist, and features a blend of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and cloves, blended with loose-leaf black tea and rooibos.
