Restaurants should recognize “new luxury” purchasing trends

July 10, 2010

Luxury spending has rebounded the first few months of 2010, but the things people are splurging on have changed, according to an article in USA Today. The restaurant industry can tap into these changing trends by integrating health and wellness, which many non-restaurant retailers are capitalizing on.

From the story:

… the new luxury is about investing in a lifestyle experience that not only can help improve health but also escalate the experience of such mundane acts as baking a pizza at home. Sales of outdoor artisan pizza ovens at Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet — similar to ovens used at pizza parlors — were up 48% last year and are up 74% so far this year.
