Round Table Pizza gives corp. employees paid volunteer days

CONCORD, Calif. — Round Table Pizza has implemented a program that contributes two days of community service per year for each of its corporate employees and restaurant managers.
According to a news release, the 500-unit company learned its employees wanted to volunteer in their communities, but that they lacked the time. Round Table then decided to provide corporate employees and restaurant managers two paid days for volunteer work in their communities.
Round Table partnered with Habitat for Humanity and with local food banks to develop community service days for its employees. Led by Round Table president and chief operating officer, Rob McCourt, employees braved the 106 F heat over the summer to help build houses with Habitat for Humanity in Antioch, Calif. In an e-mail to the entire company, McCourt stated that "caring for families in need is both a personal and a corporate responsibility. ... We are fortunate people, working within a fortunate business, and have an opportunity to really give back to the community."
In September, Round Table partnered with Loaves and Fishes, a food bank in Sacramento, Calif., to provide a pizza lunch to 500 regular visitors to the food bank.  Round Table employees will continue their volunteer efforts with Habitat for Humanity in Sacramento in late October.
Round Table managers in Portland, Ore., took a day in September to raise money in the area's Walk for Autism. In November, managers in the Fresno, Calif., area will volunteer to support the Angel Tree Gift Drive in their community, while others in Southern California will take the day off to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in its annual Stride and Ride.
"I was overcome by the responses I received," McCourt said of the employees' willingness to help others. "The desire to give time and monies is phenomenal. The warmth, caring and generosity of employees really resonates with me and is reflective of company values we can all be proud of."
