Dec. 20, 2013

Sbarro announced it will continue its international growth through a partnership with Dubai Comercio e Representacoes to open 20 units throughout the next decade in Brazil. The franchise agreement with Dubai Comercio e Representacoes expands Sbarro's footprint in South America, which currently includes locations in Chile, Colombia and Ecuador, as well as locations launching soon in Peru and Bolivia.

According to a news release, Dubai Comercio e Representacoes master franchisor Walter Vilar will develop and operate Sbarro eateries throughout Brazil and across three states: Goias, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. The company opened its first Sbarro locations in the fall in Asa Sul and Premium Outlets Mall, and has plans to open four additional eateries in Goiania in 2014 including a location at the Del Aquas Mall.

"Dubai Comercio e Representacoes is a stellar operator and will serve as an ideal strategic business partner as we continue to expand our presence in South America," said Randy Jones, chief operating officer of Sbarro. "Walter and his team bring extensive knowledge of the Brazilian market and values and priorities that align with the traditions and goals of the Sbarro brand."

Sbarro currently operates more than 1,000 units across more than 40 countries with more than 400 of those restaurants located outside the U.S.
