Sbarro partners with National Amusements to put pizza in theatres

MELVILLE, N.Y. -- Sbarro, Inc. and mega-movie theater company, National Amusements, Inc., have partnered to put Sbarro's products in the theatre chain's complexes.

According to a news release, the agreement between the 996-unit restaurant company and the 1,381-screen motion-picture exhibitor calls for Sbarro restaurants to open in seven National Amusements' complexes initially, followed by 12 more units before year's end.

"We're proud to be part of the ground-breaking efforts of National Amusements to transform the movie-going experience," said Gennaro Sbarro, president of franchising/licensing at Sbarro. "This agreement allows us to expand rapidly in a key sector of the entertainment market."

"We are always looking to build on the movie-going experience and continually offer our patrons new and exciting things within our theatres," Shari E. Redstone, president of National Amusements, said in the release. "This partnership with Sbarro has been terrific from the start -- their team has been wonderful to work with, patron feedback has been tremendous, and pizza sales in our theatres have exceeded our highest expectations."

Sbarro restaurants currently operating in National Amusements complexes are in New York, Ohio and Maryland. Later this year, others are expected to open in New Jersey, Michigan, Virginia, Rhode Island and Kentucky.
