NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. -- A 4.3 percent jump in dine-in traffic, plus a 3.5 percent rise carryout and delivery sales drove comparable same-store sales up 7.1 percent at Bertucci's during the quarter ended July 4.
A 1 percent price increase helped drive numbers upward.
According to the company's most recent SEC filing, sales for the period were $41.3 million, up $294,000 (.7 percent) over the same period last year, and net income was $20.4 million, compared to a loss of $989,000 in the same period last year.
Much of the company's profit resulted from the sale of 40 Chili's Bar & Grill restaurants and seven On the Border restaurants to Brinker International last April.
Bertucci's sales the first six months of 2002 were $78 million, compared to $110.8 million for the first half of 2001. The company said the drop was "entirely due to the Brinker Sale." Minus the Brinker Sale component, comparable-store sales for the period were up 3.7 percent, due mostly to the opening of five new restaurants. Dine-in sales were up 4.7 percent, while carryout and delivery sales rose 1.2 percent.
