Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has issued a certificate commemorating Shakey’s Pizza Parlor’s 60th anniversary. The chain will also give away free slices of pizza July 7 from 3-5 p.m. at all participating Southern California locations.
According to a news release, Shakey’s was originally established in 1954 as a destination for pizza, beer and ragtime music.
"Some things never go out of style," CEO Nick Mayer said in the release. "During a time when people want nothing more than to get social, Shakey's Pizza has stayed true to its retro roots, featuring its classic thin crust pizza with dough made fresh daily, frosty pints, crispy fried chicken and famous Mojo Potatoes, all in a relaxing atmosphere where everyone can have fun.”
Mayer said the brand’s longevity comes from, in part, its community ties to schools, sports teams and civic groups through fundraisers, sponsorships and other programs.
