ShopKeep POS, an iPad POS provider to brick-and-mortar merchants, announced it has been named to the Red Herring Top 100 leading private companies in the U.S. and Canada.

"We are extremely proud to be named among this list of outstanding entrepreneurs and promising companies," said Jason Richelson, CEO and founder of ShopKeep POS. "We came from humble beginnings, first out of the back of my wine store in Brooklyn and then a city-funded co-working space, and today have more than 6,500 customers across the country. We've more than doubled revenues since January."

Each year, Red Herring considers thousands of aspiring companies to select the 100 fastest growing and most innovative startups.

"We believe ShopKeep embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture," said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring.

Richelson founded ShopKeep POS based on his own experience as a retailer in Brooklyn, N.Y., after becoming frustrated by his expensive, complicated and unreliable POS system. ShopKeep POS offers a cloud-based POS system for a low monthly fee, according to a release.
