SAN RAMON, Calif. -- As Straw Hat Pizza celebrates its 50th anniversary in July, the company has announced aggressive plans to double in size to more than 100 eateries by the end of 2010.
Straw Hat, which has locations in California, is looking to open in the Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Nevada and Texas markets, among others. Developers will open the first Straw Hat location in Benton, Ark., in August.
Last year, Americans ordered more than 5.5 billion pizzas, according to market research company NPD Group, more than any restaurant item other than burgers and fries.
Meanwhile, to celebrate its 50th anniversary, Straw Hat is offering the following deals throughout the month of July:
- Mondays: 50 cent individual cheese pizzas - dine in
- Wednesdays: 50 cent regular size cokes - dine in
- On the weekend of July 10-12: $6.99 large pepperoni (or 1-topping) pizza $1 Coca Cola drinks
Giveaways also include 50th Anniversary T-Shirts, reuseable grocery bags and temporary tattoos.
Straw Hat Pizza, founded in 1959, has 58 locations in California. The franchise recently was awarded the seal of Fair Franchising by the American Association Franchisees & Dealers (AAFD) and awarded "hottest franchise" by America's Hottest Franchise.
