PARIS -- Sacre bleu! A report in a French newspaper La Tribune claims that per-capita consumption of pizza in France is double that of Italy.

The report stated that research consultant firm Gira Sic Conseil found Frenchmen eat 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of pizza per person per year, while the Italians consume only 5 kilograms (11 pounds).

Additionally, the report found that for every hamburger eaten by Frenchmen, eight sandwiches and 35 pizzas are eaten.

The news is especially good for independent pizzeria operators, who researchers found hold a 90 percent share of the market, compared to a 10 percent share held by large chains.
