Topper's leverages social media to build awareness in expansion bid

The new Ann Arbor, Mich., Toppers Pizza unit marks the company's 50th location. Entrepreneur recently recognized Topper's as a Top 500 concept, and the company has 15 new locations under contract to be built by the end of 2013.

This expansion isn't expected to slow down. Topper's CEO Scott Gittrich told last year that he'd like to get to 500 units by 2020.

To mark its latest milestone location, Topper's launched a social media campaign today called "Show Us Your Toppers Face," which asks fans to submit photos of themselves immersed in the Toppers culture with menu items from the restaurant. The top 50 photos will advance to a March Madness bracket style of voting with the top photo winning a $1,000 gift card.

According to the company, social media campaigns such as "Show Us Your Toppers Face" has been one of the brand's main marketing strategies to build brand awareness and to continue engaging fans. This has helped Toppers Pizza to have about 56,442 fans per 50 locations, higher than average.
