Domino's Wisconsin Six Cheese Pizza has only debuted this month, but even James Robson, CEO of the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, has high hopes that it could usher in more Wisconsin-themed pizzas at other top chains in the segment. Ag Weekly reported on Robson's remarks during a WMMB meeting:
This pizza with “Wisconsin” in the name might prompt the introduction of similar offerings from other companies.
“I think the big benefit of this introduction is the fact that we’ve seen specialty cheese on pizzas generally, from some smaller, independent pizza makers. ...But this, to my knowledge, this American Legends line, is the first time one of the ‘big four,’ as they’re referred to, has used cheeses such has Provolone and Parmesan and Feta and so forth,” Robson said.
The draw of such pizzas is likely their sense of local American terroir, the theme of Domino's American Legends line.
Interestingly, Robson, who has tasted the new pizza, claims that it really only contains about 33 percent Wisconsin cheese.
