Zpizza introduces all-natural Pure Pepperoni

In honor of National Pizza Month and its 25th anniversary, Zpizza has launched its specially formulated "Pure Pepperoni." The chain's culinary team spent two years developing the all-natural, MSG-free pepperoni with no added nitrites or preservatives.

Pure Pepperoni has the same flavor profile as the traditional item and is the only pepperoni used in all 100 Zpizza locations.

"Pepperoni is one of the most popular pizza toppings and we wanted to create a healthier, gourmet pepperoni with the same great taste, but without many of the additives that go into processed meat," said Sid Fanarof, founder, Zpizza. "This is the first time a national chain has created a product like this for use on a global scale, and we're proud to offer a pepperoni with the same great flavor that's better for you."

Additionally, Zpizza is asking customers to help with the menu through its "Pure Pepperoni Design Your Dream Pizza" recipe contest.

From Oct. 6-31, fans can create their ideal pepperoni pizza via the "Pure Pepperoni Design Your Dream Pizza" recipe contest on the Zpizza Facebook page.

Entries will be judged by Zpizza's culinary team, Sid's Kitchen, a food and restaurant reporter for The Orange County Register and the public. The winning recipe will be announced Nov. 21 and featured on menus during National Pizza Week, Jan.9-13, 2012, along with the possibility of becoming a permanent menu item. The winner will also receive "free pizza for a year."

Throughout the month of October, for every case of pepperoni purchased by Zpizza locations, $10 will be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Also, all stores are selling St. Jude Pumpkin Pin Ups for $1 in support of the organization, as part of its ongoing charitable partnership.
