MELVILLE, N.Y. — Despite posting its second consecutive annual loss, it appears operations are improving at Sbarro.
Fiscal 2004 sales improved more than 8 percent for the 949-unit chain (which includes 22 units representing non-Sbarro concepts) to $584.7 million in the period ending Jan. 2, 2005, from $536.2 million in 2003. Revenue was $348.8 million, up from $332.3 million the year before.
The company lost $4.3 million for the year, about a fourth of its 2003 loss of $17.2 million.
The Sbarro chain enjoyed a net-unit increase of 30 for the year, bringing its total to 927.
