4Q comps rise 5.3% at California Pizza Kitchen

LOS ANGELES — California Pizza Kitchen announced comparable-restaurant sales increased 5.3 percent for the 12 weeks ended Jan. 1, 2006. According to a news release, the company lapped a 7.7 percent increase in comps for the same period in 2004.

Revenue for 4Q '05 was $125.4 million, up 8.9 percent over the $115.2 million posted in 4Q '04. (CPK had an additional week in fiscal 2004 [a 53-week year versus a 52-week year] which is reflected in 2004 fourth quarter revenues.)

The company estimated that fourth quarter 2005 comps would have increased 6.5 percent were it not for temporary closures due to last year's hurricanes.
