Whitewater, Wisconsin-based Toppers Pizza announced a record-breaking Super Bowl Sunday, reporting more than $240,000 in system-wide sales, the highest sales day in company history and a 38 percent increase from the prior year.
The brand sold a total of 7,100 pizzas, 3,200 Topperstix and 2,100 wings across more than 60 locations nationwide on Super Bowl Sunday.
"Historically, wings have been considered the go-to snack for the big game, but this year we are seeing a shift," said Toppers Vice President of Marketing Scott Iversen in as statement. "We saw our biggest sales day in 24 years on Super Bowl Sunday - it is clear that pizza is emerging as a top contender for the most popular game day party food."
The company expects to open 15 new stores in 2015. It is targeting the Midwest for its expansion efforts, including Des Moines, Iowa; Chicago, Minneapolis, and Indianapolis.
The brand aims to reach 500 stores by 2020 and is listed in Technomic's "Pizza Consumer Trend Report" as one of the top 50 pizza companies in the U.S, the company said in a press release.
