American Pizza Community brands help 'build' community

The American Pizza Community is celebrating National Pizza Month with a charitable-giving campaign serving up pizzas and feeding Habitat for Humanity affiliated chapter volunteers and staff in various regional communities where they build homes, a news release said.

Throughout October, local pizza store owners from Domino's, Godfather's Pizza, Hungry Howie's, Papa John's and Pizza Hut will donate pizzas to 13 construction sites and new home presentations in coordination with the Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley (Washtenaw County, Michigan), Habitat for Humanity Metro Louisville (Louisville, Kentucky) and Habitat for Humanity of Omaha (Omaha, Nebraska).

"While many APC members support large charitable organizations through their corporate brand, we wanted to create a charitable-giving campaign that was local in scope to reflect pizza store owners' value of community," APC Chair Tim McIntyre, said in the release.  "Habitat for Humanity's emphasis on building strong communities through affordable home options resonates with our pizza industry who have deeply-connected ties to their local communities in which they live."

Some of the projects receiving donations in October include construction sites in Ypsilanti, Michigan and Omaha, Nebraska, as well as those in Jefferson County, Kentucky and at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

The American Pizza Community is a coalition of the nation's large and small pizza companies, operators, franchisees, vendors, suppliers and other entities that make up the American pizza industry. Current members include Domino's Pizza, Figaro's Italian Pizza, Godfather's Pizza, Hungry Howie's, Hunt Brothers Pizza, the International Pizza Hut Franchise Holders Association, Little Caesars, Nick-N-Willy's Pizza, Pizza Factory, and Pizza Schmizza. Supplier partners include Coca-Cola, Leprino Foods Company, Middleby Marshall, Paradise Tomato Kitchens, PepsiCo and Tyson Foods.  Affiliate partners include the National Pork Producers Council and the Tomato Products Wellness Council.
