Analyst's report predicts strong Q3 comps for Domino's Pizza

October 12, 2004

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Citigroup Smith Barney market analyst Mark Kalinowski is predicting Domino's Pizza will report strong third quarter results during its upcoming conference call on Oct. 19.

Surveys done by Kalinowski's research team lead him to believe Domino's same-store sales will be up 5 percent, nearly double his prediction of earlier this year.

The CSB report credits the chain's "three medium pizzas for $5 each" promotion for boosting both top-line sales and average guest check from about $10 to $15.

Predictions for 4Q aren't so exciting, the report said, because Domino's is challenged with trumping last year's comp gain of 5.1 percent, helped by its September intro of the Philly Cheese Steak Pizza.

It's not clear, Kalinowski added, how much impact Domino's new Doublemelt pizza will have on Q4 comps, though early reports are favorable.
