New York-style pizza brand, Artichoke Basille's, will open an Oakland, California store on Aug. 24, the second Northern California unit for the chain. The new store on Telegraph Avenue at 48th Street, is operated by franchisee, Jim Trevor, who also helped open New York locations in Chelsea and Greenwich Village, a news release said.
Trevor also owns the first Northern California unit for the brand in Berkeley and is in fact a native of the region. The release said Trevor "has his sights set on" opening additional restaurant locations in downtown Oakland, Lakeshore, as well as the aforementioned city of Berkeley.
"I live in the area and have been dining in Temescal for years," Trevor said of the Northern Oakland neighborhood. "When I got word ... (that) Lanesplitter Pizza wanted to downsize and close their Temescal pizzeria after 15 years, I knew it was a good opportunity for Artichoke Pizza's second West Coast location."
Artichoke's newest Oakland store will offer seven signature pizzas, including fan-favorites like the Artichoke and Crab Pies, plus more traditional offerings like the Margherita, Pepperoni, and Meatball. The store's interior features New York City-inspired touches like exposed brick and antiqued tin and will initially offer dinner, followed by lunch as well in coming weeks. .
