WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Blackjack Pizza has added two new pies this summer designed to suit customers with exotic tastes.
According to a news release, in June the 43-unit chain introduced a Mediterranean Chicken pizza combining olive oil, chicken, tomatoes, feta and mozzarella cheeses. Built on a low-carb crust, the Mediterranean has a per-slice carb count of 15 grams, less than half that found in Blackjack's regular pizzas.
In mid-August, the company introduced a Chicken & Green Chile Pizza (chicken, medium-hot green chile sauce instead of pizza sauce, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, green chiles, black olives, red onions and tomatoes.) The pizza is baked on a choice of Blackjack's original, hand tossed or thin-and-crispy crusts, and served with a packet of 505 brand green chile sauce for those who like it hot.
The new pizza was developed and tested by Matt Hardwood, owner/manager of the Brighton, Colo., Blackjack store, and Eric Dow, manager of a Blackjack store in Denver.
"The green sauce makes all the difference," said Hardwood, adding that it took 40 tries to arrive at the final formula.
