Crain's Detroit Business: Michael Atwell, vice president of real estate for Little Caesar Enterprises Inc., told a crowd during a July 13 presentation at a real estate development conference in Detroit that the world's fourth-largest pizza chain has nearly 2,000 units in its system. (** See note below.) Published accounts in the last several years put the total at double that.
Atwell said the company is opening franchised and corporate units again at a 100-store-per-year clip.

** In August of 1999, Little Caesar's chief operating officer Harsha Agadi told Pizza Today magazine there were "4,000-plus" units in the pizza company's system. Only months before, the struggling chain closed 400 units in one night.
Agadi eventually left the company for undisclosed reasons.
