Boston Pizza comps up nearly 7 percent

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Comparable-store sales at Canadian pizza chain Boston Pizza International Inc. increased 6.6 percent for the first quarter ended March 31.
Boston Pizza opened one new restaurant during the quarter, bringing the total number of Boston Pizza restaurants open in Canada to 267. One restaurant was relocated to an improved site and nine restaurants were renovated to the latest design standards.
Boston Pizza Royalties Income Fund, which holds and licenses the Boston Pizza trademarks in Canada, saw franchise sales increase to $137.6 million, up 21 percent compared with franchise sales of $113.7 million in the first quarter of 2006.
Net income increased to $3.7 million for the first quarter, up 16 percent from net income of $3.1 million in last year's first quarter.
