Detroit-based Buddy's Pizza will celebrate National Detroit-Style Pizza Day with a fundraiser, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.
The chain of 21 stores will celebrate its annual holiday on Thursday, June 23, 2022, by donating a dollar from every pizza sold that day to the Salvation Army.
The brand also partnered with 10 other Detroit-style pizza places across the country. Those pizzerias will also donate a portion of their sales to hunger relief or homelessness.
"Detroit-style is more than just a pizza style," Wes Pikula, Buddy's chief brand officer, said in a news release for the media. "It encompasses the meaning of staying true to your roots and supporting your community. As the innovative (Detroit) style continues to rapidly spread across the nation, this national day is the perfect opportunity to support those who need it most and give back to those who have supported us through our 76 years of business."
National Pizza Day was founded by Buddy's Pizza in 2021 to celebrate the brand's 75th anniversary. The company raised $7,500 for location organizations in 2021.
