A Greenville, South Carolina pizzeria known for its Cajun-inspired pizzas is now working on becoming known for its beer assortment as well. Pizza Artista just installed a self-pour beer wall that its operators hope will make it the envy of competitors.

The wall, a product of PourMyBeer, features eight customer interface screens and 16 taps that feature a rotating array of options and a way to eliminate the need for servers to handle glasses for customers, according to an email from Pizza Arista.

"From the first time my husband and I visited (local beer halls) Pour and Hoppin' in Greenville, we loved the self-pour beer concept and felt the setting and concept could thrive in other atmospheres as well. …," Pizza Artista owner Hileri Mercier said in a press release. "The Pizza Artista brand is built on customization. It gives our customers the experience to create-their-own masterpiece pizza with unique, non-traditional toppings at a great value.

"It felt like a natural fit and the perfect culinary pairing for the create-your-own beer experience. The opportunity to 'build your own and pour your own' has been appreciated by the community. …This is Greenville's first self-pour location in a restaurant setting!"

As for the PourMyBeer technology, a company spokeswoman told Pizza Marketplace that one of its benefits, compared to similar devices, is that it operates on A/C power, instead of D/C power like many other self-pour tech systems. This feature allows businesses to carry the current through long runs of wiring, unlike what's possible with direct current, so the machine's valves and flow meters can be as far as 50 feet away. The company said many D/C-based self-pour machines must be placed no more than three feet from the tap, which often causes that dread of all beer lovers — foamy beer.
