California Pizza Kitchen comps jump 8.6% in 2Q

LOS ANGELES — California Pizza Kitchen announced comparable-store sales for its second quarter ended July 3, 2005, rose approximately 8.6 percent, compared to a 7.3 percent increase in the same period last year.

According to a news release, revenues rose 16.5 percent to $119.4 million for the period, versus $102.5 million in the period last year. CPK said this quarter's per share earnings of 32 cents is 4 cents higher than expected.

The 182-unit company said increased guest counts, a new electronic gift card program and the implementation of a new POS system all helped boost comps.
