California Pizza Kitchen comps up nearly 5 percent

LOS ANGELES — Comparable-store sales at California Pizza Kitchen increased 4.7 percent in the first quarter ended April 1, the company announced.
Average weekly sales for California Pizza Kitchen's 168 full-service restaurants increased 4.1 percent to $65,904 for the first quarter, compared with $63,293 for the same quarter last year.
Revenues for the company increased 15 percent to $149.4 million compared with revenues of $128.5 million for the first quarter of last year. Net income for the quarter was $3.6 million, down 22 percent compared with net income of $4.6 million for the 2006 first quarter,
The company added two new full-service restaurants in Austin, Texas, and San Francisco during the first quarter, as well as two CPK/ASAP fast-casual restaurants in Anaheim, Calif., and Kailua, Hawaii. The company's franchise partner, WDI Corp., also opened its second full service restaurant in Japan.
