Canadian Pizza 73 goes all in for plant-based base + toppings

August 7, 2019

Canadian-based pizza chain, Pizza 73 is debuting a cauliflower crust in all 88 traditional Alberta-area restaurants, as well as two new plant-based protein toppings (plant-based pepperoni and plant-based spicy sausage crumble). The combination of both toppings in the so-called Super Plant Pizza are now available to guests across the QSR brand, a news release said.

"The resounding feedback from our customers has been for healthier options and more flexibility, so we are excited to deliver on their requests," Pizza 73 CEO Paul Goddard, said in a release. "At Pizza 73, we are continuously focused on new trends and menu innovation for our customers. The launch of our Cauliflower Crust and plant-based protein toppings is another example of Pizza 73 leading the way in innovation and food quality."

The new crust option comes in the medium-sized pie and has two servings of vegetables in every 12-inch pizza. It's also gluten-free and vegan, while the plant-based protein pepperoni and spicy sausage can go on any pie.

The Super Plant Pizza is the brand's first wholly plant-based protein topping recipe on the menu and include tomato sauce, mozzarella, plant-based pepperoni and plant-based spicy sausage crumble. It can also be ordered with a cauliflower crust and vegan "cheeze" to remain totally vegan in ingredient base.

The pepperoni products is made by Yves Veggie Cuisine, while the "sausage" comes from Greenleaf Foods' Field Roast Grain Meat Company.
