Commodities update -- Week of Oct. 26, 2009

Block cheese prices on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange averaged slightly under $1.45 per pound, down 3 cents from the previous week's record high.   Block cheese closed at under $1.42 per pound Monday, $1.43 on Tuesday, under $1.45 on Wednesday, under $1.46 on Thursday and at $1.50 on Friday.   Prices are off 33 cents, or 19 percent, compared with this time last year, when block cheese averaged $1.78 per pound.   Wheat  Wheat for December delivery closed at $5.60 per bushel Friday on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, up from the previous week's close of $5.27.   Prices for wheat for December delivery closed at $5.42 per bushel on Monday, $5.35 per bushel on Tuesday, $5.53 per bushel Wednesday and $5.60 per bushel Thursday.   Gasoline and diesel fuel  The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.67 per gallon Oct. 26, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, up 11 cents from the previous week.   Prices are up 6 percent from an average of $2.51 per gallon a month ago and off 1 percent from an average of $2.70 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded currently averages $2.84 per gallon while premium unleaded stands at $2.94 per gallon as of Oct. 26.   The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stands at $2.81 per gallon Oct. 26, up 10 cents from last week. Diesel prices are off 19 percent from an average of $3.48 per gallon this time last year.   Natural gas  Since Oct. 14, natural gas spot prices have increased at all market locations in the lower 48 states, according to the Energy Information Administration. Price hikes generally ranged between 31 cents and $1.14 per million Btu (MMBtu). Prices at the Henry Hub climbed 98 cents per MMBtu, or about 26 percent, to $4.80 per MMBtu.
 
Pizza company stocks  Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed at $34.29 on Oct. 23, up 4 cents compared with the previous week's close of $34.25. YUM traded at a 52-week high of $36.96 in June 2009 and a 52-week low of $21.50 in November 2008.   Domino's closed at $7.90, off 64 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $8.54. Over the past 52 weeks, DPZ has traded as high as $10.07 in June 2009 and as low as $2.61 in November 2008.   Papa John's stock closed at $23.54, off 33 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $23.87. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $29.25 in May 2009 and a 52-week low of $12.78 in November 2008.   Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed at $25.56, off 59 cents compared with the previous week's close of $26.15. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $34.77 in July 2009 and a 52-week low of $12.96 in November 2008.   California Pizza Kitchen closed at $13.61 on Oct. 16, off $2.12 compared with the previous week's close of $15.73. CPKI has traded as high as $17.44 in mid-April and as low as $5.24 in November 2008.   Pizza Inn closed at $1.75 on Oct. 23, the same as the previous week. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.59 in November 2008 and a 52-week low of 98 cents in April 2009.
