Comps up at Boston Pizza

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Comparable store sales at restaurants operated by Canadian pizza chain Boston Pizza International were up 2.8 percent in the first quarter ended March 31, the company announced, compared with an increase of 0.9 percent for the same period in 2008.
Sales were positively impacted by a successful national menu promotion which ran in all locations during January.
Revenues for the company were $209.7 million, up 9 percent compared with revenues of $192.1 million in the first quarter of 2008. Net income for the quarter was $5.2 million, up 24 percent compared with net income of $4.2 million last year.
Boston Pizza International opened seven restaurants during the quarter, bringing its total to 330.
