D'Ambrosio's pizza logs solid finish in World Pizza Championship

SUNNYVALE, Calif.—A pizza made by John V. D'Ambrosio, president and chief executive, Frankie, Johnnie and Luigi, Too! earned "Best Pizza from the USA" honors at the World Pizza Championship in Salsomaggiore, Italy April 3-6.

According to a news release, his creation, the "Fiore di Italia," beat out all the entries from the U.S. and finished within a few points of a top-10 finish worldwide. His accomplishment contributed to a record six medals for the World Pizza Champions team, an assembly of several independent U.S. pizzeria owners who compete in a wide array of pizza skills contests.

"This was one of the most exciting and enjoyable pizza events I have attended in my 35 years in this business," said D'Ambrosio. "My goal for next year is to crack the top 10 worldwide!"

D'Ambrosio's prize-winning pizza will be featured as a special in his restaurants sometime in May or June of this year.
