TAMPA, Fla.—Mall and shopping center real estate giant DeBartolo has partnered with the Kolaj family of New York City's Famiglia International to expand the Famous Famiglia pizza franchise around the country.
According to a news release, the agreement is part of DeBartolo's new business strategy of partnering with regional companies that have a strong business model but need assistance to grow nationally.
This month, the new partners will form Famiglia DeBartolo, L.L.C., based in White Plains, New York. The new company, led by the DeBartolo and Kolaj families, will manage and coordinate company-owned locations, franchise operations, quality control, training and marketing.
The new company will explore expansion options for units in airports and transportation hubs, malls and shopping centers, colleges and universities, sports stadiums and busy urban locations throughout the nation.
According to Eddie DeBartolo, Jr., chairman of DeBartolo Property Group, "It was the numerous similarities between the two families, coupled with the business opportunity, which brought us together."
Paul Kolaj, president and CEO of the new venture, said the DeBartolo's business reputation and financial resources made the opportunity too good pass up.
"We are honored to be working with them," Kolaj said.
Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
Created in 1986, Famous Famiglia has 25 locations throughout New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Texas.
Famiglia DeBartolo, L.L.C. is the latest restaurant operation formed by DeBartolo, joining Ed & Eddie's Homemade Ice Cream (Tampa), TuscaBella Grill and Patio Bar (Tampa) and The Boathouse (Boardman, Ohio).
