MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — David Brandon, chairman and chief executive of Domino's Pizza and a former Central Michigan University trustee, will be a commencement speaker at CMU's graduation ceremonies May 7. According to a news release, Brandon will receive an honorary degree during the ceremony for his commitment to the university and successes in the business world.
Brandon succeeded Domino's Pizza Inc. founder Tom Monaghan in 1999 as head of one of America's most recognized pizza delivery brands. Prior to Domino's, Brandon served as chairman, president and CEO of Valassis, an international marketing services and sales promotion company.
A graduate of the University of Michigan, Brandon was a member of three Big Ten champion football teams under Coach Bo Schembechler. In 1998 he was elected to an eight-year term as a regent at the University of Michigan. He served as a member of the CMU Board of Trustees from 1994 to 1998 and was elected board chair by his colleagues in 1997-98.
He is a member of the board of directors of Burger King Corp., TJX Companies (the parent of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, A.J. Wright and HomeGoods stores), and Kaydon Corp. He also is a National Advisory Board member of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
