Domino's for the 11th year is hooking up with the National Fire Protection Association during Fire Prevention Week to drive home the message that "fire can happen anywhere" and prevention pays big. Flyers containing fire safety tips will come atop all delivered pizza boxes, a news release said.
Customers who order Domino's next week may also become the talk of the neighborhood if their delivery is chosen to be made aboard a fire engine. Then, if that home's smoke alarms are working, the pizza is free. Fortunately, there's no penalty if the alarm is not functioning or not there since firefighters will replace the batteries in a non-functioning alarm or install a fully-functioning one for those who've forgotten the potentially life-saving devices.
"The Fire Prevention Week program is a great way to educate customers about fire safety," Domino's spokeswoman Jenny Fouracre, said in the release.
NFPA statistics show that the number of U.S. home fires has been steadily declining over the past few decades. However, the death rate per 1,000 home fires that are reported to fire departments was 10 percent higher in 2016 than in 1980.
"These numbers show that while we've made significant progress in teaching people how to prevent fires from happening, there's still much more work to do in terms of educating the public about how to protect themselves in the event of one," NFPA Vice President of Outreach and Advocacy Lorraine Carli, said in the release. "We hope to help spread these lifesaving messages through our continued partnership with Domino's."
