Domino's Pizza Australia targets small towns for regional expansion

February 12, 2006

BRISBANE, Aus. — Domino's Pizza Australia New Zealand Ltd. is targeting smaller regional towns, satellite cities and smaller suburban areas to increase its store count.

"The new small stores were designed so that they required just two-thirds of the capital cost to establish and two-thirds of the operating costs," Don Meij, chief executive of DPAZ, said in a news release. "This means (these) would deliver the same rate of return as a traditional store."

The small-store growth plan, Meij added, is expected to help the company extend its unit count to well beyond 550.
