Domino's Pizza to open first Victoria, Australia store

November 10, 2003

SHEPPARTON, Australia—Though Domino's Pizza Australia has 260 units "down under," it will open its first unit in the state of Victoria on Nov. 12.

According to a report in The Age, that unit will be located in Shepparton.

"Apart from the new Shepparton store, we will be opening another six stores in Victoria over the next six months," Domino's managing director Don Meij said in the report. "Our Victorian entry will help boost Domino's market share by tapping into a state which has a quarter of the Australian population."

The Brisbane-based franchisee company opened its first store in neighboring New Zealand earlier this summer, which touched off a price battle among the nation's pizza chains (see related story Domino's Pizza lands in New Zealand, ignites price war).
