FESTUS, Mo. — Operators of a Domino's Pizza unit in Mansfield, Ohio, called off a May 16 hearing with the National Labor Relations Board in which it planned to dispute the legitimacy of the formation of a union for pizza delivery drivers.
According to a news release from the Association of Pizza Delivery Drivers, a union election is tentatively scheduled for June 6. (Read also Ohio pizza drivers file for union election.)
Pizza delivery drivers at the Domino's store cite cuts in mileage reimbursement as the primary reason to unionize the store. The group filed for union election in April and plan to join APDD.
NLRB regional director Fredrick J. Calatrello determined last year that pizza delivery drivers are considered a separate bargaining unit that may unionize separately from other employees who work only in the store.
Should the drivers successfully start a union at the Domino's unit, it would be the nation's first.
