Domino's Australia has created what's believed to be the world's first autonomous pizza delivery vehicle, according to a press release from Research and Markets. The pizza company revealed their delivery robot in Brisbane on March 17, following months of testing.

DRU, Domino's Robotic Unit, is a prototype able to reach speeds of 12 mph and designed to cruise on bike paths, trails and footpaths.

Domino's sourced the robot from the military, and built it with help from Australian startup Marathon Robotics. DRU features Domino's GPS tracking data, plus a system of sensory lasers to help the robot avoid obstacles and maintain its journey to the customer's address. The pizza is kept in a locked storage compartment, accessible through use of a security code sent to the customer's phone.
