August 23, 2021

Detroit-style Emmy Square Pizza will open its first North Carolina location early next month in Charlotte.

A location in Durham, North Carolina, is also slated to open in November, according to a press release. The full-service pizzeria is named for its Detroit-style square slices and its co-founder, Emily Hyland.

The Charlotte location will be situated in a 4,800-square-foot former retail store and will emulate the company's existing locations in New York, D.C., Philadelphia, Louisville, Kentucky, Nashville and Atlanta. The store will be open for dine-in, take out and delivery and have an outdoor seating area.

Hyland relocated to Charlotte's South End neighborhood from New York City and is looking forward to immersing herself in her new community, according to the release.

"The Emmy Squared team is both excited and grateful to be part of the Plaza Midwood neighborhood. It's amazing to see how this community has already embraced us," Emily Hyland, partner and co-founder, said in the release. "Our team is dedicated to engraining ourselves in the local culture and getting involved in every way we can – with inclusivity, community and hospitality at the forefront of our mission."

The Charlotte location will hire up to 50 full- and part-time employees.

Emmy Squared was founded in the Brooklyn Williamsburg neighborhood in 2016.
