Chicago will welcome its third Bonci pizzeria later this month. The Lakeview location, at 3151 N. Broadway, is scheduled to open on Thursday, April 18, according to an Eater Chicago report.
Bonci, known for its Roman-style pizza al taglio (rectangular slices sold by weight), boasts a light and airy crust topped with unique ingredients. Founder Gabriele Bonci, a Netflix "Chef's Table" star, originally envisioned pizza as a snack, a concept unfamiliar to many Americans accustomed to full-meal pizzas. The U.S. menu has since adapted, offering pepperoni and whole pies alongside signature items like lemon ricotta and vegan mushroom rosa.
Bonci gained popularity after praise from Anthony Bourdain. Its first U.S. location opened seven years ago in Chicago's West Loop. Ownership group Chakib Touhami and Rick Tasman initially planned national expansion, but the pandemic shifted their focus to Chicago neighborhoods.
The Lakeview location joins existing Bonci outposts in Old Town and Lincoln Park. It's also a short distance from Wrigley Field, offering Cubs fans a unique dining option.
