Figaro's acquires Pizza Schmizza

April 7, 2008

SALEM, Ore. — Figaro's Italian Pizza has completed its acquisition of the 31-unit Pizza Schmizza, a Hillsboro, Ore.-based chain specializing in by-the-slice thin-crust pizza.

Pizza Schmizza first began contemplating a sale several months ago when the company's CEO Doug Wetter, who also is a major shareholder, fell ill and could no longer fulfill his day-to-day obligations. Vice president Rick Glenn suggested contacting Figaro's Pizza, where Glenn once worked.

Founded in 1981, the 100-unit Figaro's Pizza chain offers pizzas baked in the restaurant or pizzas to take home in oven-ready baking trays for home baking. Pizza also is sold by the slice in some stores.

The company expects to open 15 to 20 new units per year over the next several years.
