Former golf pro opens Your Pie in California

There's a new fast casual pizza franchise moving into the sizzling Coachella Valley market in California under the ownership of a former golf pro and his wife. Scott and Andrea Burr are opening the unit in Indio and plan to add four more locations there in the next five years.

The couple's entrepreneurial spirit stems from Scott's days as a golf professional when they owned a pro shop. They wanted to move into restaurant ownership and, according to a press release, found Your Pie to be the perfect fit for the Coachella Valley. 

"There are so many successful fast-casual franchise concepts here in the Valley," said Scott Burr. "The fast casual pizza segment is hot right now, but it's one model that hasn't broken into our market yet. I'm excited to tap into the territory and fill a void that locals have been missing."

Your Pie owner and founder, Drew French, started the chain in 2008, after tasting pizza made in the same manner on the island of Ischia in Italy. The first store opened in Athens, Georgia, that year, but California was always a part of the growth plan for the chain.

"When you think of California, the first thing that comes to mind is the sheer size of the state and the effort it takes to make an impact in the market," said French. "There is plenty of room for growth for our down-the-line concept to become the next big thing in California."

Your Pie has 30 locations in nine states and is on pace to cross the 50-unit mark by the end of 2016, according to the release.
