Four pizza drivers robbed in 6-hour span

March 16, 2005

Washington Post: Masked men held up four pizza delivery drivers in Alexandria, Va., within a six-hour span on Feb. 26, robbing three drivers of their money and two of their cars.

The robberies and carjackings in the city's West End began about 2:45 p.m. and ended about 8:30 p.m., said police spokeswoman Amy Bertsch. A fifth pizza delivery man was approached shortly after that but scared off the robber by honking his horn, she said. None of the drivers was hurt.

Bertsch said investigators do not believe the robbers planned the holdups by placing orders with pizza stores and staking out the delivery sites. The robbers, all wearing black clothes and ski masks, probably spotted cars marked with pizza signs and targeted them, she said.

Police believe the robberies are related. No arrests have been made.
